the little bang

This blog is a continuing stream of consciousness which keeps me amused, out of trouble, or at least minimally awake and is user friendly, cost effective, and may occasionally make one smile for no particular rhyme or reason.

I've been watching a lot of MASH lately. That was probably my favorite TV show when I was in college. You're now able to buy an entire season on DVD which makes it easy to watch. I think the first three seasons were the best. That's when McLean Stevenson played the Commanding Officer Henry Blake. It was kind of fitting that they killed off the character at the end of season three, because the show seemed to change a lot after that. It just never seemed as funny after he left. I'm not sure that I noticed when it was first on, but Henry Blake was from Bloomington, IL and he usually wore an Illini sweater with a big orange I on the front. Since I was attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, you'd think that I'd remember that.

Christopher Reeve died yesterday. He always seemed like a great guy, even before his equestrian accident. As a huge fan of Superman comics as a kid, he was the personification of the character. No one who played Superman before or since has been as good. I guess it's rather ironic that a man who represented someone invunerable was so vunerable himself. Probably my favorite Reeve film was not Superman, but Somewhere in Time. He played a man who fell in love with a stage actress from the early twentieth century. He discovers a way to travel through time to meet her at the Grand Hotel in Michigan where she is acting in a play. I've watched that film about six or seven times, and every time it touches me in some way. I think that I'll watch it this weekend.
