the little bang

This blog is a continuing stream of consciousness which keeps me amused, out of trouble, or at least minimally awake and is user friendly, cost effective, and may occasionally make one smile for no particular rhyme or reason.

Stephanie was voted off last night on Surivor. No surprise since she was a loner who cut herself off from the other tribe members. You would think that everyone would know that you can't alienate tribe members and expect to survive. It reminds me of the line by Al Pacino in one of the Godfather films; "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". You can't react to someone unless you know what they're saying.

One of the tribes lost their boat by flimsily tying it during high tide. I know that they're tired, but it should have been carried onto land overnight. Now they have to swim to their water source. Again, it was the guy from my company who messed up. I don't think he's going to last much longer.

Survivor night! Need I say more. Well, I guess that I should. The main thing that I am starting to wonder is why no one ever seems to learn from previous episodes. This is the fifth Survivor series. You would think that by now the contestents would be better prepared than they were during the first show. For instance, when they first arrive they always need fire for warmth and to cook. Yet no one ever has a plan that works to build a fire. If boy scouts and girl scouts can start a fire, then why can't these guys. Also, since they know that food will be scarce and they will lose a lot of weight, why don't they do like Robert DeNiro did for "Raging Bull" and pack on 40 pounds before the trip. I could go on, but then I would miss the show. More later.

I saw "The Transporter" over the weekend. I have mixed emotions about it. On the one hand, it is set in Europe and beautifully filmed with decent actors that I have never seen before. On the other hand, it has a fairly ridiculous plot. The Transporter is an ex-military guy who transports packages no questions asked. He is thoroughly professional and makes a great living based on his mansion located on the Meditteranean. He gets into trouble on his latest assignment by opening the package which contains a stunning looking Asian woman. She's the daughter of a man who sells other Asians into slavery. She has been interfering with Daddy's business. "The Transporter" and "The Package" are then chased, bombed, shot at, and fought for the rest of the film. They survive one car bombing, three missiles, 5000 rounds of ammunition, car crashes, jumps from burning buildings, and hand to hand contact with a couple dozen bad guys. Miraculously, they receive not one broken bone, burn, scratch, or even sore muscle. I think that the woman may have had her hair mussed at one point which was the extent of any injury. The bad guys didn't fare as well. They seem to litter the streets, although only one Columbo type cop ever shows up. I give it a very weak thumbs up; maybe a sideways thumb. A much better movie of the same genre is "The French Connection".
