the little bang

This blog is a continuing stream of consciousness which keeps me amused, out of trouble, or at least minimally awake and is user friendly, cost effective, and may occasionally make one smile for no particular rhyme or reason.

I found a great book today called "Living Water-A Chronological Reading of the The Four Gospels". Since the four gospels all tell basically the same, slightly different view of the life of Christ, I always thought it would be a great idea to combine them into one seamless book. This book is an attempt to do just that. It should be an interesting read.

What a beautiful day. The sun is shining and the temperature is rising. Quite a contrast to the weather earlier in the week. I was a little saddened to hear that a pedestrian was killed in St. Louis by an out of control Jeep. I see that every winter where people in 4-wheel drive SUV's drive as if there's no snow or ice on the road. They don't seem to realise that the physics that allow them to accelerate with an SUV do not help them one iota while trying to stop. So they drive down the highways like Kamikaze pilots endangering themselves and everyone else on the road. It's no wonder that there were hundreds of accidents this week. I'd be willing to bet that almost all of them could have been avoided if everyone had just slowed down. May the Lord be with that poor pedestrian.

I spoke too soon. It was snowing this morning with 3-6 inches due. There's an old saying that if you want to make God laugh, just tell him your plans. My plans were to have a mild winter in St. Louis. Oh well, I've seen worse snowstorms.

I am getting so old. I was planning to watch "The Osbournes" last night at 9:30, but I fell asleep. How lame is that. What happened to the days when I would stay out until the sun came up. Come to think of it, I'm not that much younger than Ozzy.

I went outside this morning and guess what? There wasn't any snow. In Chicago I heard that there was snow and the temperature had dropped to 15 degrees. Maybe there is a small advantage to being in St. Louis. It's not exactly Hawaii, but the winters are a little less harsh than I'm accustomed to enduring. You have to look at the bright side of things. Some people say the glass is half empty and some say it is half full. As Steven Wright likes to say, I think the glass is too large.

Busy, Busy, Busy. Make a note: Never fly on the Sunday after Thanksgiving if you can avoid it. I was lucky. At O'Hare I took an early morning flight and going through security only took about 5 minutes. When I got to St. Louis, people were backed up all the way down the UA hallway waiting to go through security. There must have been close to a thousand with only three stations. I bet that quite a few missed their flights. Still, you can't blame secutity. They're just doing their jobs.

Thanksgiving was nice. I enjoyed eating out rather than having my Mom prepare a big meal. There was a large buffet with all the traditional Thanksgiving fare and a lot of other stuff, as well. They even had some fairly decent Champagne. We then went back to my parent's house for pumpkin pie. I would recommend trying something similar to anyone who wants a stress free holiday meal for a change. Perhaps the best part, there are no dishes to be washed.
