the little bang

This blog is a continuing stream of consciousness which keeps me amused, out of trouble, or at least minimally awake and is user friendly, cost effective, and may occasionally make one smile for no particular rhyme or reason.

This is the 250th post to my BLOG. Quite an accomplishment. It ranks up there with graduating from kindergarten. I thought that I might have to repeat because I never caught on to nap time. Of course, now I'm a veritable pro. I can fit in a micro-nap in less than 10 seconds. Thank you, Mrs. Rustin.

Nothing much is going on. I'll be working in St. Louis at least until this time next year. I don't know if I'll still be working here when the new Cardinals stadium opens, but if I'm not I'll have to make a special trip down. I like the Cardinals as much as the Cubs.

I rented the film The Magdalene Sisters yesterday and watched it last night. Just when you think that you know something about the world, you learn something new. In Ireland there were over 30,000 young girls and women who were virtually imprisoned because they were deemed bad. Girls who had been raped, or had children out of wedlock, or maybe were just a little too interested in boys were sent to work for the Catholic Church to do laundry. The Nuns would often abuse them and beat them if they disobeyed. If anyone got too far out of hand, she would be sent to a mental institution. It's hard to believe that this was still going on in the twentieth century, but the last one closed in 1996.
