the little bang

This blog is a continuing stream of consciousness which keeps me amused, out of trouble, or at least minimally awake and is user friendly, cost effective, and may occasionally make one smile for no particular rhyme or reason.

It's the final Survivor episode tomorrow night. Mother's day seems like an odd time to air the finale, but I think they're still in sweeps. Rob, Matt, Butch, and Jenna are the final four. Probably the most deserving of winning is Rob. He has almost single-handedly manipulated the game each week to its current state. In the process, he outwitted a lawyer, rocket scientist, and a few other very bright people. He's clearly the type of person who can see moves two or three steps ahead. Matt and Butch would have been left in the dust a long time ago without his help. Matt is easily the most physically strong of the remaining four and one of the few in the original 16 who could have survived on his own. Socially, he's inept. Butch has played it close to the vest and not made any enemies. Although, stacking dry wood by the fire last week and setting the camp on fire has probably changed that. For a swimsuit model, Jenna has played a very smart game. She used her body and good looks to make it this far, but that's not unlike real life. You use what you've got. At this point, so much depends on who wins the immunity challenges. Who wins is based on what the challenges test; strength, endurance, speed, intelligence, balance, etc. Hence, it's very hard to pick a winner, but here are my odds:
Rob - 2 to 1
Matt - 5 to 2
Butch - 4 to 1
Jenna - 10 to 1

It's almost Mother's Day. Where would we be without our mothers? It's sad that so many people don't really appreciate their moms. It's too bad that they can't remember when they were about 6 months old and relied on Mom for everything. They'd probably have a much different view. It's like some people think that they became self-sufficient entirely on their own and have no one to thank but themselves.

Michael Jordan was fired by the Washington Wizards! Incredible. I once said that Babe Ruth was the Michael Jordan of his time. The same type of thing happened to him. After being the greatest player of his era, he was unceremoniously dumped at the end of his career. Given the heave-ho. Kicked to the curb. I also remember that Joe Louis was a greeter at Caesar's Palace after his prize-fighting days. That had to be humiliating. Shaking hands like some kind of San Diego Chicken. The higher one flies, the greater the fall. If I were Jordan, I'd go home to Juanita and the kids and forget about basketball. He's too good for the game today.

I watched the news last night and was surprised by how much damage was done by tornados to towns in Missouri and Kansas. Tornados are scary. You would think that in todays age, that someone could figure out how to prevent them from forming. That reminds me of the movie Twister that was out a few years ago. I remember that it played in a Texas outdoor theater while an actual twister went thru the parking lot. They said that the winds were so strong that it actually pushed a plot into the middle of the movie. Not sure I believe that. I haven't been to an outdoor movie in ages. I wonder if there are any left in the Chicago area. There was one in Waukegan when I lived there and it was a great place to see a B movie.

Tonight is another episode of American Idol. I can't believe that Josh survived another week. I think that some people are voting for him because he's a Marine and not because of his voice. I definitely think that Clay should win. I've yet to hear him give a bad performance. Kimberly is up and down each week. If she has a song that suits her, then she can be great. Same thing with Ruben.
