Question: What do you do with an elephant that has 3 balls?
Answer: Walk him and pitch to the giraffe.
Just a little baseball humor. But if the players go on strike today, the above game will be the only one that I would be interested in seeing for a while. I find it incredible that the owners and players are even thinking of killing the golden goose. They're going to lose a lot of their old fans while not making any new ones. Within a decade, soccer will become our national past time. If they strike, I probably won't go to another game until about 2008. That will be the 100 year anniversary since the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Now that I think of it, maybe I''ll be better off if they do strike. On the other hand, I've grown to like the St. Louis Cardinals. I'm beginning to understand why they were the favorite team of Dennis Calhoun, a friend of mine in Glenwood grade school. I used to impress Dennis with my Willie May's type basket catches when we played catch in the street by his house. He impressed me by becoming a star long distance runner on the track team. It will be a shame if the Cardinals miss the playoffs, if only for Denny's sake. I know. I remember how I felt when the White Sox missed their shot during the last player's strike.
